Mike and Olive Gooley boarded sportsmen and log drivers near Indian Lake, New York, ca. 1890.

On the way in or out of the wilderness, hunting parties often stopped at homes of guides whose wives provided them with beds and hot meals. The accommodations were not fancy, but the food was good and the guests were often entertained by their hosts. Two such stops were Mother Johnson's and the homestead of Mike and Olive Gooley.
